Custom Robotic Manufacturing Application – Machine Automation Integration

This custom robotic manufacturing cell manages the process of laminating layers to manufacture an end product. The video example shows wool buffing pads or foam polishing pads being manufactured. The unit consists of an operator load station where the buffing or polishing pads are loaded into the shuttle carrier. A stack consisting of the backing material, a poly-sheet and a buffing or polishing pad is placed on the three stations of the shuttle carrier. The operator then sends the shuttle carrier into the cell. Once inside the cell, the robot picks up the pads from the shuttle and brings them over to the heat press where the poly-sheet is melted; bonding the backing material to the pad. When the heating machine is finished, the robot picks up the bonded pad and brings it to the cooling/forming machine. The cooling/forming machine is where the pad is pressed down into its final shape and cooled. Once cooled, it is ejected and then kicked off by air blow onto the conveyor to be collected by an operator.

This manufacturing process was initially done by hand with employees having to move the pads through the heating and cooling machines one at a time. This custom fabricated robotic cell was created to increase output by having the robot move three pads at a time through the machines making a more efficient streamlined process for manufacturing them. Manufacturers can now accurately justify costs of productions and part per hour production.

It’s hard to come by well-informed people on this subject, but you seem like you know what you’re talking about!
    Thanks
